Reading has always been one of my favorite past times. It has been something in recents days that I haven't been able to keep up with the way I want, but it will always be my first love. Reading is the gateway to the seeing the world through a new pair of eyes. An entrance to new places; a new way of thinking.
There are five books of 2015 that make my top five:
Bonhoeffer: pastor, martyr, prophet, spy by Eric Mataxas
Dietrich Bonhoeffer represents to me a person who continues to strive for justice and truth, even when it seems like he's the only one who cares. Like its all dependent upon him to keep striving, to endure and influence those around him for what's right. Bonhoeffer's endurance is inspiring.
The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson
I love books that don't just tell a good story and that's it, but challenges the reader to do something, and the Circle Maker does just that. This relevant book on prayer challenges the reader to dare to believe that God could and would answer their bold, and reckless prayers of faith. I love it.
The Artisan Soul by Erwin Raphael McManus
I always wanted to be called an 'artist'. They always seemed so cool and special. I never believed that I could actually become one, or knew that I was already an artist....because God is an artst. He created the whole world; my Father did that. Because I am made in His image, I also have the ability to create. It's a freeing thought, and "the Artisan Soul", has been a book along with the Word of God to help see that I am an artist. I am an artist because God is!
The Fairest Beauty by Melanie Dickerson
Growing up I wasn't allowed to watch Disney movies, which was ok because I didn't care. Therefore I've never seen Snow White in any form. This book is a retelling of Snow White from a Christian perspective, I absolutely love all the books in this series, and the way Dickerson writes. I have no words for how much I love her books. So good.
Lastly. The Blessed Life by Robert Morris
I love this book because it shows that being blessed does not always mean having everything you think you need, although that's part of it, it's also about being spiritually blessed. Having peace, and joy. Enjoying your life. While the material blessings do come, it's also important to not forget where you came from, and to always keep a grateful heart towards God, striving to see Him in every aspect of your life.
Those were my top five favorite books for this year. What are yours?
